Trump-Putin diesel deal amid fresh Russian strikes

Donald Trump said he and Vladimir Putin had agreed that Russia will resume shipping diesel to the United States and world markets, a surprise opening that could reshape fuel flows even as the war grinds on. The claim landed against a grim backdrop: casualties from Russian attacks in Zaporizhzhia rose to 23, a strike on a home in Rivne region wounded seven people including four children, and another hit set fire to Nova Poshta logistics warehouses in Dnipropetrovsk region. On the diplomatic track, Volodymyr Zelensky met a delegation of US senators to press for better protection against Russian strikes, and named Taras Kachka as Ukraine's new representative to the EU. Kyiv pushed back on two fronts at once: its foreign ministry protested Minsk's accusations that a Ukrainian drone struck a truck in Russia's Bryansk region, and voiced support for the International Criminal Court after Washington sanctioned the tribunal. Ukrainian official Bogdanov warned that Russia's "cognitive war" ultimately aims to make capitulation feel acceptable to Ukrainian society. Elsewhere, the Committee to Protect Journalists urged Austria to explain the forceful detention of Ukrainska Pravda reporters in Vienna, France saw more than 6,800 people detained during high school protests, 86% of them minors, and a tornado tore through Sicily.
