Russia Strikes On Despite Ceasefire Pledge

Russia pressed ahead with strikes on Ukraine overnight despite its own announced energy ceasefire, sending a drone attack on Kyiv that injured three people and hitting Dnipro with a strike that killed one and set a shopping center on fire. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv remains ready to sign guarantees on the energy ceasefire for the United States, even as Moscow kept hitting power infrastructure on the ground. The attacks sharpened warnings about what Russia does next. Zelensky told European leaders Moscow is preparing hybrid operations against several countries, echoed by Poland's foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski, who said NATO should brace for possible casualties from such actions. Lithuania urged the EU to designate Russia's military intelligence service, the GRU, as a terrorist organization, while Polish PM Donald Tusk said blaming Ukraine for the war is effectively a gift to Putin. The EU itself tightened the squeeze, sanctioning nearly 1,600 people and entities tied to Russia's military industry. Elsewhere, Iran offered to mediate between Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia after strikes on Riyadh's airport. In the US, a Manhattan federal judge temporarily blocked Trump administration TV ads paid for with taxpayer money, calling them propaganda ahead of the November 3 midterms. In Stockholm, the Nobel Prize in economics went to Americans Michael Woodford and Robert Hall.
