Deadly Strikes Hit Kyiv and Kharkiv Overnight

Russia hit Ukraine hard overnight. President Zelensky said five ballistic missiles struck Kyiv's civilian infrastructure with no warning from partners, while a Russian strike on a residential building in Kharkiv's Kholodnohirskyi district killed three and wounded eleven; rescuers later pulled a fourth body from the rubble. Mayor Vitali Klitschko also reported burning drone debris near a park in Kyiv's Solomiyansky district. The war reached the Black Sea too. Drones struck two merchant ships off Bulgaria overnight, sinking the Maltese-flagged CHELSEA 3 near Byala; all fifteen crew were evacuated. Ukrainian and Azerbaijani nationals were among the wounded, Foreign Minister Sybiga said, as Bulgaria's premier moved to summon Russia's ambassador. Zelensky said Ukraine had held off striking Russian refineries for two days under Trump's energy-ceasefire push, but Russia ignored it; Ukrainian forces meanwhile struck an Iskander-M depot in Kursk, a radar station in Bryansk and fuel and ammo depots in occupied Luhansk. A Washington Post report on a US-European peace plan drew a sharp denial from Kyiv, where adviser Dmytro Lytvyn dismissed it as "American PR" with no real European role. Elsewhere, Germany arrested four people over suspected Starlink sabotage in Poland, and Hurricanes Simon and Rachel killed at least five in flooding on Mexico's Pacific coast.
