British rail operator CrossCountry cancelled all of its UK train services on Sunday after a power cut struck its network, stranding thousands of passengers across the country.
Travellers described the widespread disruption as the "worst case scenario", with no services operating across CrossCountry's extensive network that connects major cities including Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, and Manchester.
The power cut affected signalling and operational systems, forcing the complete suspension of services while engineers worked to restore power and assess the safety of the network.
CrossCountry urged passengers to check its website and app for updates and to avoid travelling until services resumed. The operator did not immediately confirm when normal services would be restored.
