59th assault brigade of unmanned systems returns to Ground Forces
The 59th Separate Assault Brigade of Unmanned Systems named after Yakiv Handziuk will return to the Ground Forces of Ukraine's Armed Forces, according to hromadske and two Ukrainska Pravda sources in the Defense Forces.
The brigade was in the Ground Forces until the end of 2024. That year its former commander, Vadym Sukharevskyi, headed the newly created Unmanned Systems Forces, and the brigade was reorganized and transferred to them. For almost two years it was the only infantry brigade with its own sector of the front in the Unmanned Systems Forces.
What changes
Ukrainska Pravda's two sources call the return a natural process and say they were surprised by the former commander-in-chief's decision to move the brigade to the Unmanned Systems Forces.
As far as Ukrainska Pravda knows, the brigade commander will in time also move under the control of the 9th Corps, which holds the defense in the Pokrovsk direction. The 59th is also in that sector and is operationally subordinate to the 9th Corps, so it will now come under its regular command. See also world news.
