UK Prime Minister Burnham Presses Trump on Full Starlink Access for Ukraine

1 min read

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham told US President Donald Trump in a call that Ukraine needs access to the Starlink satellite communications system, the prime minister's office said.

The issue of Ukraine's access to Starlink was named first among the topics the two leaders discussed. "The Prime Minister stressed the importance of ensuring Ukraine has full access to the Starlink network so that it can continue to defend itself against Russia's full-scale invasion," the statement said.

Efforts to bring Putin to the table

According to the statement, Burnham also praised President Trump's efforts to bring Putin to the negotiating table, and the leaders agreed to work with international partners to end the bloodshed. It is worth noting that Trump, describing the conversation with Burnham, did not mention Ukraine.

Context

On the eve of the call, Trump said he would speak to SpaceX owner Elon Musk if Ukraine had problems with Starlink connectivity. The Wall Street Journal reported on October 22 that Trump had phoned Musk and asked him to lift the restrictions. Trump himself declined to say whether he made the call.
