Zelensky: Starlink and Starshield Speed Limits Still in Force

2 min read

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Friday that the speed restrictions on Starlink satellite terminals in Ukraine are still in effect. He spoke at an online event of the Hudson Institute, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

"The speed restrictions on Starlink and Starshield are still in force, the speed has not been restored, and deliveries of interceptors to protect against Russian ballistic missiles are still delayed. We are waiting for the interceptors that have already been agreed, but they are still not arriving. We hope everything is already on its way. And this is a real problem for us, because Russian attacks happen almost daily – Russia is carrying out massive strikes. This is how the situation looks today,"
he said.

Appeal to partners

The president added that this is happening while Ukraine continues successful operations at the front. He said he wants relations with America and all other partners to be as strong as possible. "Without America, without a strong America that cares about what is happening in the world, the world today would undoubtedly be a worse place," Zelensky said.

He explained why Ukraine increasingly speaks openly to the world: it wants people, societies and nations to understand it, and when people understand what is really happening, political leaders can choose a firmer course that would bring peace closer.

Background

The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. and Ukrainian officials, reported that Donald Trump allegedly called Elon Musk and asked him to lift the restrictions on the military version of Starlink in Ukraine; see WSJ: Trump Called Musk Over Starlink Speed Limits in Ukraine. On the evening of October 22 Trump said Musk had already lifted the speed limits but declined to say whether he personally called him. Ukraine's Defense Ministry reported disruptions to Starlink/Starshield at the front, as we wrote in Ukraine Cannot Confirm Starlink Speed Limits Were Lifted.
