China's Second Typhoon in a Week Hits Zhejiang, 2M Evacuated

China's eastern Zhejiang province is bracing for its second major typhoon in the space of a single week, as authorities have evacuated nearly two million people ahead of the storm's landfall. The city of Wenzhou, a major coastal industrial hub, lies close to the path of the approaching typhoon.

Mass Evacuation Underway

Local authorities mobilised emergency services across the province to move residents away from coastal and low-lying areas. Nearly two million people have been relocated to safer ground as the typhoon made landfall on the eastern coast. Schools, businesses and transport links have been shut down as the province prepares for severe winds and heavy rainfall.

Wenzhou at Risk

The city of Wenzhou, home to millions of residents and a major centre of manufacturing and trade, is positioned close to the storm's projected path. The region has been placed on its highest alert level, with emergency shelters opened across the city and surrounding areas.

Second Strike in a Week

This is the second typhoon to hit Zhejiang province within a week, placing enormous strain on emergency services and recovery efforts that were still ongoing from the previous storm. Such rapid succession of typhoons in the same region is highly unusual and reflects increasingly extreme weather patterns in the Western Pacific.

  • Nearly 2 million people evacuated from eastern Zhejiang
  • Wenzhou city in the direct path of the storm
  • Second typhoon to hit the province within a week

Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors and away from coastal areas until the typhoon passes and the situation is assessed.
