EU 'roadmap' reportedly eyes end of Ukraine's accession talks in late 2029
The “roadmaps” the EU is preparing for the four countries seen as European-integration leaders will contain indicative dates for completing accession talks. For Ukraine, the date is the end of 2029, Radio Free Europe's Europe editor Rikard Jozwiak wrote on X, as reported by European Pravda.
Jozwiak stressed that this is not the date of EU membership but of completing negotiations. For Montenegro the date is expected to be 2026; for Albania and Moldova, the end of 2027 or the start of 2028.
A later clarification
The journalist later clarified that for Ukraine and Moldova the roadmaps will not focus on completing negotiations but will contain expectations for 2027. The question of more specific dates for completing talks will be decided later.
European Pravda reported earlier that the EU is working on proposals under which the four frontrunners — Montenegro, Ukraine, Moldova and Albania — would receive roadmaps to membership. On Tuesday, 13 October, the EU opened clusters 2 and 3 in Ukraine's accession talks; Ukraine has now opened four of the six clusters. More in politics.
