Hundreds of passengers found themselves stranded at Bristol Airport for a second consecutive day after engineers discovered a defect in the runway on Friday evening, 7 August. The closure began around 18:00 BST and was initially expected to end by 06:00 BST on Saturday, but repairs proved more extensive than anticipated.

The airport extended the runway suspension until at least 08:00 BST, diverting arriving international flights to alternative airports. Scenes inside the terminal on Friday night were described as chaotic, with passengers reporting confusion and a lack of clear information from airport staff.

Flights have now begun to restart, although significant delays and diversions remain in place following approximately 14 hours of cancellations. Passengers are advised to contact their airlines before travelling to the airport.
