Kosovo Ends 20-Month Political Deadlock by Electing New President

1 min read

The Republic of Kosovo elected Justina Shiroka-Pula as its new president, ending a 20-month political crisis that had threatened to trigger snap elections, Deutsche Welle reported. The vote came just before a constitutional deadline that would have dissolved parliament.

Her election clears a path for political renewal in the Western Balkans country, which has been navigating difficult negotiations over its status and relations with Serbia.
