Kyiv's Southern Bridge Closed After Overnight Missile Strike
A missile struck Kyiv's Southern Bridge during an overnight attack on 27 October, damaging metro infrastructure and forcing authorities to close the bridge to all traffic.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the hit: "A strike on the Southern Bridge. The metro infrastructure on it is also damaged." Because of the damage to the metro's above-ground infrastructure, train service was restricted on the red and green lines. Service on the red line was later fully restored, but on the green line trains were running only between Syrets and Vydubychi, while the section between Osokorky and Chervony Khutir was suspended.
Traffic and transport changes
In the morning the patrol police said the Southern Bridge was temporarily closed to all vehicles in both directions. The city administration reported changes in the work of surface public transport to compensate for the metro restrictions.
A second strike within hours
Russia attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles overnight, and an air-raid alert over the missile threat lasted almost an hour from 03:25. Klitschko said a missile hit an administrative building in the Podilskyi district, and non-residential buildings were hit at two other addresses.
It was the second ballistic attack on the capital in a few hours: on the evening of 26 October one person was killed and 10 injured, as we wrote in our report on the dormitory strike. See more in World.
