Netanyahu Defends Course at UN: No Concessions on Gaza or Iran

2 min read

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a defiant speech at the United Nations General Assembly, using the global platform to mount a fierce defense of Israel's military and diplomatic policies with no sign of compromise on either the Gaza conflict or the threat from Iran.

Standing at the podium of the UN General Assembly in New York, Netanyahu dismissed criticism of Israel's conduct and doubled down on the country's objectives in Gaza. He made clear that Israel has no intention of softening its approach or accepting conditions that would limit its ability to operate militarily in the region.

Unapologetic Stance on Gaza

Netanyahu's address was one of the most forceful defenses of Israeli policy in the Gaza conflict delivered before the UN in recent years. He argued that Israel is acting in self-defense against what he described as existential threats and rejected calls from other nations for a ceasefire or a negotiated settlement that would leave Hamas in a position of influence.

The speech came amid continuing international pressure on Israel over civilian casualties and the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Netanyahu did not address these concerns in detail, instead focusing on Israel's security imperatives and the need to prevent future attacks.

No Doubts on Iran

On Iran, Netanyahu was equally uncompromising. He defended Israel's policies toward the Islamic Republic and expressed no uncertainty about the direction Israel intends to take in countering what he described as Iran's destabilizing influence in the Middle East and its nuclear ambitions.

Netanyahu portrayed Iran as the central threat not just to Israel but to regional and global stability, using language that signaled continued readiness for confrontation rather than de-escalation.

The speech was met with applause from parts of the hall, but significant portions of the UN membership have been increasingly critical of Israeli military operations. Several delegations were not present when Netanyahu took the stage.

The address underscored the deep divisions at the UN over the Middle East and confirmed that Israel under Netanyahu's leadership is not prepared to alter course under international pressure.
