Netanyahu: Fight Against Iran Is Not Over, New Events Could Happen at Any Moment

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on April 20 that US-Israeli actions against Iran are "not complete yet," warning that "new events" could take place "at any moment" — just days after a temporary ceasefire was announced in the region.

Netanyahu's Statement

Speaking at a joint appearance with Argentine President Javier Milei, Netanyahu said: "At any moment, new events could happen. Who knows what tomorrow or the day after tomorrow will bring." The remarks signal that Israel is far from considering the conflict concluded, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Context: Ceasefire and Unresolved Tensions

US President Donald Trump had announced on April 16 that Israel and Lebanon reached a ceasefire agreement. However, the broader conflict with Iran remains unresolved. Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem said he was "fully open" to cooperating with the Lebanese government on the ceasefire, but attached conditions that analysts described as difficult to fulfill.

On the same day as Netanyahu's warning, US forces seized the Iranian cargo ship Touska in the Gulf of Oman after it attempted to break through the American naval blockade. The seizure underscored the continued military posture of both the US and Israel toward Iran despite diplomatic talks.

Ongoing Negotiations

Trump's representatives are engaged in negotiations with Iran through Pakistani intermediaries, though Tehran had not confirmed its participation in the latest round of talks, citing the continuing American blockade of Iranian ports. Trump had previously threatened to attack Iranian power plants and bridges if no peace deal was signed by Wednesday.
