Netanyahu Says Passenger Thwarted Another 9/11 on Flydubai Flight to Israel
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised a civilian passenger, Yaniv Hayun, as a national hero after Hayun physically intervened to subdue an aggressor on a Flydubai flight traveling from the United Arab Emirates to Israel. Netanyahu described the passenger as preventing what could have been an attack similar in impact to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The Incident
According to available reports, one of the pilots aboard the aircraft attacked a colleague in the cockpit area, creating a life-threatening situation for everyone aboard. Hayun, a civilian passenger who happened to be nearby, intervened physically and helped subdue the aggressor, allowing the crew to regain control of the situation and the aircraft to land safely.
Netanyahu's Praise
The Israeli prime minister made a public statement commending Hayun's bravery, noting that his quick action may have averted a catastrophe. The use of the September 11 comparison underlined the severity of what could have occurred had no intervention taken place.
Israeli and Emirati authorities are investigating the incident. The aggressor's motive has not been publicly confirmed.
