New Ukraine-Romania border crossing opens in Zakarpattia
A new international border crossing Bila Tserkva - Sighetu Marmatiei opened on the Ukrainian-Romanian border in Zakarpattia on October 8. The first vehicle toward Romania was processed at 10:43 a.m.
The State Border Guard Service stated the crossing opened on temporary infrastructure. On the Ukrainian side, an access road was built and modular facilities for border and customs control were installed. The Romanian side built the checkpoint and a new bridge over the Tisa River.
Infrastructure Minister Mykola Kalashnyk noted this is the third crossing with Romania in Zakarpattia. It has special significance for residents of the Solotvyno community, which has a large ethnic Romanian population. In the first phase, the crossing will process up to 400 passenger vehicles per day. After full construction, it will also handle up to 360 trucks and 50 buses.
