Oleshky Ceasefire Begins for Humanitarian Mission, Says Lubinets
Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets announced that a ceasefire began at 03:00 Kyiv time on 27 October near the temporarily occupied city of Oleshky in the Kherson region. Russia's defence ministry confirmed the "regime of silence".
"Today at 3:00 Kyiv time and 4:00 Moscow time, a ceasefire regime has been introduced in the designated territories linked to the humanitarian mission," Lubinets wrote on Telegram. "The sides are adhering to the agreements reached by the heads of the negotiating groups with the Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova."
Russia confirms
The Russian defence ministry said that, in connection with preparations for a humanitarian operation in the area of Oleshky, Russian forces had stopped fire in the Kherson direction and introduced a "regime of silence" from 04:00 Moscow time on 27 October 2026.
Lubinets stressed that the ceasefire is part of a humanitarian mission Ukraine is carrying out together with Lantratova, with mediation and coordination by US First Lady Melania Trump. He promised to keep the public informed, but with the safety of civilians in Oleshky and compliance with the agreements as the priority.
Background
The White House earlier announced that Melania Trump had secured a truce between Russia and Ukraine in Oleshky, which is suffering a humanitarian catastrophe. On the eve, the Ukrainian and Russian general staffs said that a ceasefire in a designated area would start overnight on 27 October for the humanitarian operation, and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Russia's agreement. We wrote earlier about the General Staff's warning about rumours and about Melania Trump's possible visit to Ukraine.
