1 min read

At 03:40 on Saturday, October 17, Russian forces carried out airstrikes with FAB-250 guided bombs targeting a residential neighborhood in Sloviansk, Donetsk region. According to Sloviansk city military administration chief Vadym Liakh, the bombs directly hit two apartment buildings in a densely populated sleeping district.

Casualties and Damage

One person was confirmed killed and ten others were wounded in the attack. Four of the injured were hospitalized. Search and rescue operations continued at the strike sites, as authorities warned that additional bodies might be found under the rubble. In total, eight apartment buildings sustained damage.

Regional Context

The Donetsk regional prosecutor's office launched an investigation into the attack. Sloviansk, a city of strategic significance in eastern Ukraine, has faced repeated Russian strikes. The use of FAB-250 glide bombs — converted Soviet-era unguided bombs fitted with wing kits — has become increasingly common in Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities since 2024, allowing aircraft to release them from beyond Ukrainian air defense range.
