Russia Strikes Kharkiv in Mass Evening Attack, 10 Injured
Russian forces carried out a large-scale strike against Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, on the evening of October 16, 2026. Local officials confirmed at least ten people were injured as a result of the attack.
Oleh Syniehubov, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, and city mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that strikes hit the Slobidskyi and Nemyshlianskyi districts of the city. The timing — the evening hours when residents are most active — amplified the humanitarian impact.
In the Nemyshlianskyi district, nine people experienced acute stress reactions following the bombardment. Among them were two teenagers: a 13-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy, both requiring medical attention. A further individual in the Slobidskyi district also suffered an acute stress reaction.
Emergency services were deployed across both districts as firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement assessed the damage and assisted those affected. Authorities urged residents to remain in shelters and not to ignore air raid warnings.
Kharkiv, located just 30 kilometers from the Russian border, has been one of the most frequently targeted cities throughout the ongoing conflict, with persistent shelling aimed at residential neighborhoods, energy infrastructure, and public spaces. Ukrainian authorities continue to call on international partners to provide additional air defense systems to better protect the city's civilian population.
