War and Progress: Ukraine's Internal Struggles Alongside External Threats

1 min read

2026 brought Ukraine many troubles — and not all of them came from Putin or Trump. Numerous causes for sorrow arose within Ukraine itself. Resonant scandals followed one after another: violations of rights during forced mobilization, growing complaints about military recruitment offices, attacks on servicemen in the rear, and social fractures that undermine the unity the country needs to survive.

Yet despite everything, Ukraine continues to move forward. Reforms are being implemented even during wartime, democratic institutions are functioning, and civil society remains active and vocal. The country has survived years of full-scale war while maintaining its fundamental democratic character — a remarkable achievement under any circumstances.

The challenge for Ukraine is to address its internal failings without losing sight of the existential threat posed by Russia's ongoing invasion. Progress requires acknowledging problems honestly rather than dismissing critics as enemies of the state.
