Several of Africa's longest-serving leaders, some now in their eighties, are intensifying efforts to entrench their rule as health concerns and succession questions loom over their governments.

Zimbabwe's parliament passed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 with a two-thirds supermajority, extending the president's term from 5 to 7 years, abolishing direct presidential elections from 2030, and potentially keeping 83-year-old Emmerson Mnangagwa in power until 2030.
