Russian Drones Violated Moldovan Airspace Five Times Overnight

1 min read

Moldova's defense and aviation authorities reported that Russian military drones violated the country's airspace five separate times during the night, as the drones crossed from Ukrainian territory while conducting attacks.

This is not the first such incident. Moldova, which is not a NATO member, has repeatedly protested Russian airspace violations and called on the international community to hold Russia accountable for endangering civilian aviation and violating national sovereignty.

The increased drone activity over and near Moldova reflects Russia's intensified use of long-range drones to strike Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, with the flight paths frequently passing through or near the airspace of neutral countries in the region.

Moldova has been taking steps to strengthen its air defense capabilities with Western assistance, but its geographic location adjacent to both Ukraine and the Russian-controlled breakaway region of Transnistria makes it particularly vulnerable.
