Russian forces struck the centre of Sloviansk in Donetsk Oblast at about 17:00 on October 21, wounding five people, two of them children, Mayor Vadym Liakh said on Facebook. Later the regional governor reported eight wounded in the city over the day.

Mayor: five wounded, two of them children

“Five wounded are known so far. Among them are two children — boys aged 7 and 13 — and a girl who turned 18 the day before yesterday,” Liakh said. He specified that the strike landed near multi-storey buildings, and he published photos and video of damaged houses and burning cars.

Governor: eight wounded over the day

Regional governor Vadym Filashkin later said that at least eight people were wounded in Sloviansk by Russian strikes, including two children. “During the day the enemy repeatedly attacked the city, including with guided aerial bombs and an FPV drone. Six apartment buildings, a hotel, a shop and three cars were damaged, and five more vehicles were destroyed,” he said.

Filashkin urged residents to evacuate from Donetsk Oblast to safer regions of Ukraine: “No home and no circumstances are worth a child’s life.” He gave the evacuation hotlines 0-800-500-121 and +380730500121, and 0800332614 for seriously ill people and people with disabilities.

Sloviansk has been under repeated attack in recent days; we reported earlier on six people killed in Russian strikes on the city on October 18.
