Trump Considers Moving White House Press Briefing Room

1 min read

US President Donald Trump confirmed on Saturday, 24 October, that he is considering moving the White House press briefing room to another, 'less obnoxious' place. He wrote about it on Truth Social, according to European Pravda.

In the post, Trump rejected reports that he plans to eliminate the briefing room and restore the historic swimming pool on that spot. He said it had never even occurred to him to do 'such a foolish thing'. At the same time, he said he might relocate the room.

What Trump wrote

"While I might move the 'Fake News' to some less obnoxious place, the old swimming pool can never be brought back."

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that in August Trump urged then press secretary Karoline Leavitt to move press conferences out of the James S. Brady briefing room at the White House. The idea was never carried out.

Backdrop: a standoff with the press

On 18 September Trump announced that he was banning Politico, CNN and MS NOW from the White House, a step that legal experts called unconstitutional. On 21 September the three outlets filed a federal lawsuit against the president.

Later the television networks ABC, CBS and NBC, and even Trump-friendly Fox News, announced a boycott of official events. The New York Times and The Washington Post joined the protest by ceasing to publish official footage and materials connected with the president.
