Ukraine Successfully Tests New 'Spis' Air Interceptor Missile
Ukraine has conducted a successful test of its domestically developed 'Spis' (Spear) interceptor missile, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Sunday following a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Kyiv.
"An important development: today we heard about the test of our new interceptor — the Ukrainian interceptor 'Spis.' The test was positive," Zelensky stated.
The president also revealed that a new small rocket called "Nika" is being developed specifically to counter reactive Shahed drones, with testing expected soon.
During Merz's visit, the two leaders discussed strengthening Ukraine's air defenses, including increasing Patriot missile production in Germany. "We will work to the maximum on air defense and on increasing production in Germany of rockets for Patriot systems. These are important agreements," Zelensky added.
An anticipated contract worth approximately 2 billion euros with German defense manufacturer Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG) is also being finalized.
