Ukrainian MP Yuriy Koryavchenkov Reportedly Settling in Spain Amid Corruption Probe

Amid growing discussions over the past 12 months regarding the declining work ethic and "fatigue" of lawmakers from the "Servant of the People" faction, a new controversy has emerged surrounding Ukrainian Member of Parliament Yuriy Koryavchenkov. Better known to the public as "Yuzik" from his time as an actor at Kvartal 95, the MP has reportedly been spending his time on the Spanish coast while a major corruption investigation unfolds at home.

The "Envelope" Scandal and Departure

In December of last year, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) exposed a scheme involving illicit payments to lawmakers. According to investigators, members of the presidential faction were receiving unofficial salaries in envelopes. These funds were allegedly distributed from the office of Yuriy Kisel, a prominent MP and businessman with close ties to the president.

While four deputies from the "Servant of the People" party officially received notices of suspicion, sources within law enforcement informed journalists that a fifth suspect, Koryavchenkov, quietly left the country just before the charges were announced.

From Kryvyi Rih to Costa Brava

Elected to the Verkhovna Rada in 2019 to represent a majoritarian district in Kryvyi Rih, Koryavchenkov appears to have traded his industrial hometown for the picturesque Costa Brava in Spain. In February, readers tipped off the media about the MP's whereabouts. This aligns with Koryavchenkov's electronic asset declaration, which indicates that his family has been residing in Spain since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

A review of the lawmaker's social media activity reveals a telling pattern: in recent months, he has participated in parliamentary committee meetings almost exclusively online, frequently sporting a visible tan.

Real Estate Rumors and Legal Scrutiny

The Spanish retreat has not completely shielded the MP from Ukrainian authorities. Law enforcement sources report that NABU recently summoned Koryavchenkov for questioning specifically regarding the illicit envelope payments. Meanwhile, neighbors in his Spanish community suggest the lawmaker is putting down deeper roots, noting that his family has been actively engaging with local real estate agents in recent weeks.
