The Vatican confirmed that Pope Leo XIV underwent surgery for lung cancer, during which part of his lung was removed. The Vatican said the operation was successful and the pontiff is recovering.

Pope Leo XIV disclosed the surgery to thousands of faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square, speaking about his health and thanking those present for their prayers. Vatican medical sources said recovery is proceeding normally.
