Zelensky Calls for Security Corridors at Airports for Foreign Delegations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on September 8 called on partner countries to help establish security corridors at airports to ensure the safe movement of foreign delegations and officials visiting Ukraine.

Zelensky stated that proper security infrastructure at transit points is essential given the continued threat of Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory, which pose risks not only to Ukrainian citizens but also to visiting foreign officials and diplomatic missions.

The Ukrainian leader emphasized that supporting visiting delegations' safety is a critical component of sustaining international engagement with Ukraine, as diplomatic visits remain essential for coordinating military, financial, and political support.

Ukraine has hosted numerous high-level visits from allied nations throughout the conflict, including visits from heads of state and defense ministers. Ensuring secure transport corridors would help facilitate more frequent and higher-level diplomatic engagement.

The proposal comes amid ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks that have targeted infrastructure across Ukraine, making travel within the country and to Ukrainian airports a security consideration for foreign diplomats.
