Zelensky Expects Meeting with Trump in Late September to Discuss Ballistic Weapons

President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is counting on a meeting with US President Donald Trump in the last decade of September to raise the issue of ballistic weapons packages for Ukraine.

Zelensky said: 'I am counting on a meeting in the 20s with President Trump, raising this topic. And God willing, there will be a result.'

The president added that during the meeting he hopes to discuss ballistic weapons packages from the Americans. He noted that work on the anti-ballistic program FREYJA is ongoing and expressed hope that the Americans support this program — though in the meantime Ukraine needs ballistic packages from the US.

Zelensky did not specify where the meeting might take place. However, on September 22 the high-level debate of the UN General Assembly begins in New York, in which the Ukrainian president traditionally participates. Earlier Zelensky expressed the view that a trilateral round of negotiations between the US, Ukraine, and Russia is possible, though no decision on this has yet been taken.
