Zelensky: Five Ballistic Missiles Hit Kyiv, Partners Gave No Warning
President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that Russia struck Kyiv with five ballistic missiles overnight on October 12-13, hitting civilian infrastructure, and that Ukraine received no advance warning from its international partners before the attack.
Zelensky's Statement
"It was a treacherous ballistic strike on Kyiv — five missiles that hit civilian infrastructure. Unfortunately, there was no warning from partners about this strike. Intelligence on Russian ballistic launches saves lives, and this is one of the most critical issues. Warnings about ballistics are what help prevent killings," Zelensky said.
The president did not specify which partners failed to provide the intelligence or explain the reasons for the gap.
Air Force Confirms Late Alarm
Air Force spokesman Colonel Yurii Ihnat confirmed that the air raid alert sounded after the ballistic attack on Kyiv had already begun, noting that such incidents had occurred before. He expressed hope that Ukraine and its partners would investigate why the warning was late on October 12.
Background
According to the Air Force, at 22:10 on October 12, Russia launched five ballistic missiles at Kyiv. The attack occurred while Ukraine had been restraining from striking Russian oil refineries for two days — a gesture in response to US President Trump's call for an energy ceasefire. Russia did not reciprocate: over those two days, 19 Ukrainian regions came under Russian attack.
