Zelensky: Kyiv Has Installed Over 12 Automated Turrets Against Reactive Drones
Ukraine has deployed over 12 automated combat turrets in Kyiv to defend against reactive Shahed drone attacks, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced during a joint press briefing with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Kyiv.
"We've started installing turrets. We've already installed 12 plus in the capital, and eight more .50-caliber turrets will additionally be installed in the Kyiv region," Zelensky stated.
The turrets are automated combat modules designed for .50-caliber (12.7mm) heavy machine guns, capable of engaging low-flying drone targets. The deployment represents a new layer of air defense specifically targeting the reactive (jet-powered) Shahed drones that Russia has been using in recent attacks.
Earlier on Sunday morning, Russian forces attacked Kyiv's Northern Bridge with aerial bombs. Zelensky later released video footage of the strike on the bridge.
