The Saxony-Anhalt state parliament passed a resolution demanding an immediate halt to all German aid to Ukraine, with AfD and BSW votes, calling on CDU Premier Schulze to push for peace talks with Russia.

The AfD in Saxony-Anhalt is invoking the constitutional concept of 'Bundeszwang' — federal compulsion — as part of its political messaging, raising questions about state-federal relations and the limits of federal authority in Germany's system of cooperative federalism.

Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has won the Saxony-Anhalt state election with approximately 44 percent of the vote, raising urgent questions about coalition formation as mainstream parties have pledged not to govern with the AfD.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's declared policy of refusing all parliamentary cooperation with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is facing growing strain, as some CDU/CSU members signal openness to issue-by-issue collaboration.

Germany's BSW party, founded by Sahra Wagenknecht, faces growing criticism for aligning with the far-right AfD on certain policy positions, blurring the lines between left-wing populism and right-wing nationalism.

The AfD won 43.8% in Saxony-Anhalt but fell short of an absolute majority, holding 39 of 83 seats. US envoys Witkoff and Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv but achieved no Ukraine peace breakthrough.

Germany's far-right AfD is set for a historic 44% victory in Saxony-Anhalt that could make it the first far-right party to govern a German state since World War Two.
