Lebanon's parliament voted Tuesday to replace the death penalty with life imprisonment, a historic move that makes it the first country in the Middle East to formally abolish capital punishment.

A Lebanese military general was among three soldiers killed when the Israeli military struck their vehicle in south Lebanon, where Israel is conducting operations against Hezbollah. The Israeli military said it is investigating the incident.
