Apple on Tuesday officially launched the iPhone Duo, marking the company's long-awaited entry into the foldable smartphone market. The device, which folds vertically like a clamshell, starts at $2,000 for the base 256GB model.

The iPhone Duo features a 7.8-inch inner display when unfolded and a 5.2-inch outer cover display. Apple claims the hinge mechanism is designed to last over 500,000 folds without significant wear, and the device carries an IPX8 water resistance rating.

Running iOS 20, the Duo is powered by Apple's latest A19 chip and features the company's most advanced camera system yet, with a 50-megapixel main sensor and new computational photography features optimized for the form factor.

Apple CEO Tim Cook called the iPhone Duo "the most personal iPhone we've ever made," emphasizing the new possibilities created by the larger unfolded display for productivity and creative tasks.

The device will be available for pre-order starting September 15, with general availability from September 22. It will compete directly with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series, as well as devices from Google, Motorola, and other manufacturers.
