Large-Scale Blackout Hits Sevastopol and Other Cities in Occupied Crimea

1 min read

Russian-installed authorities reported a blackout in Sevastopol and other cities of occupied Crimea late on Friday, 23 October.

Sevastopol's Russian-appointed "governor" Mikhail Razvozhayev wrote on social media: "As a result of an enemy attack on energy infrastructure outside Sevastopol, our city temporarily lost power. A special regime has been introduced at facilities, and social facilities have switched to backup power schemes." Oleg Kryuchkov, a so-called "adviser to the head of Crimea," also reported the outage on Telegram.

Which cities lost power

Local residents said the outages began in Alushta, Yalta, Sevastopol, Sudak and Yevpatoriya. The Sevastopol "governor" confirmed the power cut in the city. The reports come from the occupation officials, local residents and Russian local channels.

Not the first blackout

It is not the first blackout in Russian-occupied Sevastopol. In August, the occupation authorities said the city was left without electricity after an attack on Sevastopol. A large-scale blackout also hit the entire occupied territory of Crimea the same month.
