Lukashenko Orders Sweeping Military Inspection Amid Army Shake-Up in Belarus

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has ordered a wide-ranging inspection of the country's armed forces, according to official statements from Minsk. The directive, issued on September 11, calls for a review of combat readiness, logistics chains, and officer performance across all branches of the Belarusian military.

Sources familiar with the matter indicate the inspection is expected to precede significant personnel reshuffles within the senior military command. Lukashenko has in recent years regularly used such inspections to dismiss generals and mid-level officers he considers underperforming or insufficiently loyal.

The announcement comes amid heightened tensions along Belarus's border with Poland and the Baltic states, where NATO has reinforced its presence. Belarus has maintained a military posture of full readiness since Russia's 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with Belarusian territory serving as a staging ground for early Russian operations in the war's opening phase.

Lukashenko did not publicly name specific units or generals targeted by the inspection. State media cited him as stating that the military must be prepared for any scenario within 24 hours of a mobilization order.
