Ukrainian MP Stolar Returns from Abroad for Court Hearing, Posts 300M Hryvnia Bail

Ukrainian Member of Parliament Oleksiy Stolar has returned to Ukraine from abroad to appear before a court hearing in his corruption case, his lawyers confirmed on September 11. He posted a bail of 300 million hryvnia — approximately 7.3 million US dollars — as a condition of remaining free pending trial.

Stolar, a member of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, has been under investigation on suspicion of large-scale corruption and abuse of office. The charges relate to alleged illicit enrichment and misuse of public procurement mechanisms during his tenure in regional and national legislative roles.

His decision to return voluntarily was cited by his legal team as evidence of good faith and willingness to cooperate with the judicial process. Prosecutors had previously sought his pre-trial detention, arguing he posed a flight risk given his extended stay abroad.

The court accepted the 300 million hryvnia bail and imposed travel restrictions, prohibiting Stolar from leaving Ukraine without prior judicial authorization. The next hearing is scheduled for late September, at which prosecutors are expected to outline the full scope of charges against him.

The case is being closely watched in Ukrainian political circles as the Stolar proceedings are seen as a test of the Anti-Corruption Court's willingness to prosecute sitting lawmakers with significant political connections.

Ukraine's anti-corruption agency NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office are jointly leading the investigation, which reportedly involves assets valued at several hundred million hryvnias.
