Moscow Authorities Claim Drone Attack on Russian Capital, Over 140 Allegedly Shot Down

1 min read

Overnight on Saturday, October 17, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported through social media that Russian air defenses had allegedly intercepted and shot down over 140 drones targeting the Russian capital.

At 00:40 Kyiv time, Sobyanin announced the interception of 15 drones. By 1:28, he reported an additional 14 allegedly downed. Throughout the night, the total reached over 140 claimed intercepts.

Characteristically, Sobyanin provided no information on where any drones fell, whether any caused damage, or whether there were any casualties — following the usual practice of Moscow officials who claim high interception numbers without transparency.

Ukrainian authorities have not officially commented on the drone operation, which is standard practice for such operations.
