Trump Says He Won't Take Migrants From Norway Over Nobel Prize
US President Donald Trump said he does not want to accept immigrants from Norway, where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded, because he did not receive the award, and called the country a "garbage country", Reuters reported on 26 October.
Linking the recent unrest in France to migration, Trump said he would gladly welcome immigrants from some countries, but not from Norway. "So I don't want anybody from Norway. Norway has actually become a garbage country," he said, according to the agency.
The prize grievance
At the beginning of October Trump said he should have received the Nobel Peace Prize. The award instead went to South African lawyer Navanethem Pillay for her efforts to promote peace and international law.
In January Trump wrote a letter to the Norwegian prime minister in which he linked his statements about intending to take control of Greenland to not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The White House has also criticised the Nobel Committee, saying it "puts politics above peace" because Trump did not win.
