Ukraine Parliament Session Cancelled Without Notice, MPs Learn From Guards

The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada session scheduled for September 18 was suddenly cancelled. MPs were outraged after arriving at parliament only to learn from security guards that the building was closed. No advance notice was given to parliamentary groups or ministers.

MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated: "The hour of questions to the Government today in the Rada... was cancelled. And there will be no session. 'Important international events.' They went to Bukovyntsi. Great planning — deputies were only told in the morning."

MP Iryna Gerashchenko called it an unprecedented situation: "Today is a plenary week, the hour of questions to the government. Deputies came to the Rada and, as they say, kissed the door. A guard informed them the parliament is closed, MPs went to the Carpathian forum, so someone decided to simply cancel the plenary session."
