Ukraine Introduces Special 1km Border Regime Along Russia and Belarus Under Martial Law

Ukraine's State Border Guard Service announced the immediate implementation of a special border regime in a 1-kilometer strip along the state border with Russia and the Republic of Belarus, effective under the Cabinet of Ministers Resolution of August 17, 2026.

The regime was introduced during the period of martial law due to the need to address urgent issues related to strengthening the country's defense capability amid Russia's ongoing armed aggression, and to counter potential destabilization of the socio-political situation in border regions and intelligence-subversive activities.

Border protection authorities have already begun implementing the defined rules. The resolution applies to a 1-kilometer strip along the land border with Russia and Belarus.
