Ukrainian Police Officer Killed in Russian FPV Drone Attack in Kramatorsk
Police Car Struck in Drone Attack
A Russian FPV (first-person view) drone struck a police patrol car in Kramatorsk, killing one officer and wounding three others. The incident was confirmed by the head of Ukraine's National Patrol Police, Oleksiy Biloshytsky, who named the fallen officer as 40-year-old Artem Kovtun.
Officer's Family Left Behind
Biloshytsky paid tribute to the fallen policeman, noting that Kovtun is survived by his parents, wife, a 13-year-old son, and an 8-year-old daughter. The tragic loss underscores the dangers faced by Ukrainian law enforcement working in frontline and near-frontline cities.
Kramatorsk is a major city in the Donetsk region, situated near the front lines of the ongoing conflict. It serves as a key administrative and logistical hub for Ukrainian operations in the east.
FPV Drones as a Weapon Against Civilians and Law Enforcement
Russian forces have increasingly deployed FPV drones, which are inexpensive, fast, and difficult to intercept, against Ukrainian personnel and vehicles across front-line areas. These drones have been used with increasing frequency against police, emergency services, and civilian infrastructure, creating a persistent threat even in areas not immediately on the front line.
Condolences and Ongoing Threat
Ukrainian officials expressed condolences to the family of the fallen officer and called for greater protection measures for law enforcement personnel operating in high-risk areas. The attack highlights the expanding scope of Russian drone operations and the risks faced by Ukrainian police and emergency responders across the conflict zone.
