Zelensky Confirms Drone Strikes on Two Russian Oil Refineries
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian forces struck two oil refineries inside Russian territory using modernized drones. The targeted facilities were located in the cities of Omsk and Ukhta, both situated deep in Russian territory far from the front lines.
In his nightly address, Zelensky described the operation as a demonstration of Ukraine's growing long-range strike capability. He noted that the drones used in the operation had been upgraded compared to earlier models, allowing them to reach more distant targets with greater precision.
In addition to the refinery strikes, Zelensky also confirmed a separate attack on a Russian data center. He provided no further details on the data center's location or the extent of damage caused to either facility.
The strikes on energy infrastructure deep inside Russia represent a significant escalation in Ukraine's offensive drone campaign. Throughout 2026, Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russian oil refineries, fuel storage depots, and logistics hubs in an effort to degrade Russia's war-fighting capacity and impose economic costs.
Moscow has not officially commented on the strikes. Russian state media have in the past acknowledged fires at industrial facilities without attributing them to Ukrainian attacks.
The Omsk refinery is one of Russia's largest, processing Siberian crude oil, while the Ukhta facility serves the country's northwestern oil and gas sector. Disruptions to either site can affect fuel supplies to both civilian and military consumers.
Ukraine has framed its long-range strike program as a legitimate act of self-defense under international law, arguing that degrading Russia's energy and logistics infrastructure shortens the war and reduces the human cost of continued fighting.
