Zelensky: US Has Strong Proposal to Halt Infrastructure Strikes, Ukraine Ready

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on September 14 that Ukraine has proposed to its international partners to secure a deal with Russia halting attacks on critical infrastructure. In his evening address, Zelensky confirmed that Washington has presented a strong proposal for a mutual ceasefire on energy and infrastructure targets.

Ukraine Ready for First De-escalation Step

Ukraine proposed that partners secure an agreement with Russia that would stop the destruction of critical infrastructure. Food supply chains, energy systems and other elements of basic life support must be protected — and Russian strikes are directed primarily against these, Zelensky stated.

The president added that if partners can guarantee Russia will genuinely stop striking Ukraine's power grid, energy facilities and critical infrastructure, then Kyiv is, of course, ready to ensure an equivalent absence of its own strikes.

Context: Trump's Earlier Statement

Zelensky's statement came after US President Donald Trump announced that Ukraine had agreed not to strike Russian energy facilities. Kyiv confirmed the readiness for de-escalation but stressed the condition of reciprocity — Russia must do the same.
