President Volodymyr Zelensky on September 14 signed a decree appointing Kostiantyn Humeniuk as commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The decree simultaneously dismissed the previous commander, Major General Anatoliy Kazmirchuk.
Kostiantyn Humeniuk holds the rank of Colonel of the Medical Service. He has a PhD and is an Honored Doctor of Ukraine. He served as the chief surgeon of the Armed Forces.
In May 2022, Humeniuk performed the first laparoscopic kidney removal surgery conducted in a field hospital near Bakhmut — a significant achievement under wartime conditions.
