EU Roadmaps for Ukraine, Moldova Won't Set Accession Talks Dates
The European Commission currently does not plan to name target dates for finishing accession talks in its "roadmaps" for Ukraine and Moldova, European Pravda reports, citing its own sources in the EU.
"As of now, no dates for possible completion of accession talks are planned for Ukraine and Moldova," one source told the outlet.
Nothing final yet
A second source added that approaches to drafting the roadmaps may change during the week before the enlargement package is made public, so "no version can be considered final right now". The Commission plans to present the package on Wednesday, November 4.
The information contradicts a report widely carried by media a day earlier, which said the roadmap for Ukraine's EU membership envisages completing negotiations at the end of 2029. We covered that claim in our earlier article.
What Kyiv and Chisinau expect
Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Taras Kachka said earlier that Ukraine plans to complete the reforms needed for EU accession by the end of 2027. Moldova, according to reports from the previous day, wants to finish negotiations by 2028 and join the EU in 2030.
