Moldova's Tofan: Airspace Violated More Than 100 Times Since War Began

1 min read

Moldova's airspace has been violated more than 100 times since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan said at a joint briefing with Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi in Kyiv on 26 October, European Pravda reported, citing Interfax-Ukraine.

Drones and shell fragments have fallen on Moldovan territory, Tofan said, including five such incidents last Saturday alone.

'Support for Ukraine is security for Moldova'

Addressing his compatriots from Kyiv, Tofan said support for Ukraine is a choice in favour of Moldova's security. "Defending their cities, their families and their freedom every day, Ukrainians also contribute to the security of the Republic of Moldova. Their resistance allows us to live in peace and build our future at home. But the war is near our borders," he said. He added that Moldovans are also aware of energy-security threats.

Visit and military agreement

On 26 October Ukraine and Moldova signed an agreement on military-technical cooperation that opens the way to exchanging experience. Tofan arrived in the Ukrainian capital on a working visit on Monday. A related incident was reported earlier the same day: Moldova says motorized paraglider from Ukraine violated its airspace.
