Konotop Enters Fourth Day Without Power as Outage Forecast Unknown
The city of Konotop in Sumy region has been without electricity for a fourth day after Russian strikes overnight on 24 October, and there is currently no forecast for when power will return.
The mayor, Artem Semenikhin, told Suspilne that as of the night of 27 October the city was still blacked out, and most of Konotop was also without gas. "The city has no electricity, and most of it has no gas. Educational institutions are damaged, even our hospital is now running on generators. Water is supplied on a schedule: from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00," he said.
No timeline for repairs
"Unfortunately, there are no forecasts for electricity. None at all," the mayor wrote. Sumyoblenergo said emergency crews are working non-stop to repair the consequences of the strikes on energy facilities, but the timing depends on the security situation and on whether crews can work at damaged sites.
What happened
After 03:00 on 24 October Russian forces massively attacked the Konotop community with drones, hitting energy facilities, a school and private homes and causing the blackout. During the day, a Russian drone hit a civilian agricultural enterprise in the Konotop district: a 31-year-old farm worker was killed and four more people were injured, as we reported in our earlier article. Konotop was also targeted in September, when drones hit schools, a hospital, the railway and the gas network. See more in World.
