Norway's Princess Astrid dies two days after attending King Harald's funeral

Norway's Princess Astrid Martha Louise has died, two days after attending the state funeral of her brother, King Harald V, the Royal House of Norway has announced.

The princess, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday. Her nephew, the newly crowned King Haakon VIII, paid tribute to his aunt, saying she had "represented the Royal House in a warm and dutiful manner" throughout her long life of public service.

Princess Astrid was the daughter of King Olav V and Princess Märtha of Sweden, and younger sister of King Harald. She married businessman Johan Martin Ferner in 1961 and lived a relatively private life compared to the main royal line.

The Royal House asked for the family's grief to be respected as Norway mourns the passing of two senior royals within days of each other.
