Russia Attacks Kyiv-Sumy Passenger Train in Sumy Region, 90 Evacuated

On the morning of September 8, Russian forces attacked the Kyiv-Sumy passenger train in Sumy district with drones, causing a fire. The train had been stopped early after Ukrzaliznytsia's monitoring team detected the threat, and all passengers and crew were evacuated before the strike.

The State Emergency Service of Sumy region reported: 'This morning in Sumy district, the enemy struck with drones against a passenger train on the Kyiv-Sumy route. Before the attack, passengers had been escorted by Ukrzaliznytsia staff and left the train in advance.'

Rescuers extinguished the fire and evacuated 90 people in total. Four buses — two from the Emergency Service and two from local authorities — were deployed to transport passengers onward.

The Kyiv-Sumy attack was the first of three train strikes on the morning of September 8, followed by attacks on the Dnipro-Zaporizhzhia regional train and a suburban diesel train in Sumy region.
